Patience

patience_smallI know this is a virtue that is hard-won, but please…if you sent your pages on the fourth of the month and it’s the fourteenth, it’s a little early to be asking me if I’ve had a chance to read them. Especially since I have no less than fifty others before you.

These inquiries happen to piss me off for some reason. I realize I should be more charitable because I understand the nail biting. I also know my mother would be unhappy with my language when these emails come in, but come on, we’re fecking busy, and this makes you look like a clueless newbie. Mind you, I don’t care if you’re new, but I do care if you’re clueless. Makes me wonder what else you’re clueless about, and I already know that I don’t have time to teach you. Forget the beagle, too. She’d only send you out to fetch her margaritas.

Reminds me that I need to hit up an outlet that I’ve had contact with twice over the last seven months, and continue to insist they’re still interested in a piece of mine…

Todd, don’t make me hurt you.

Pain comes with the territory, I’m afraid. Being a writer of short stories and novels is never easy.
